Indians seek four-game sweep of Tigers

Baseball Betting Lines

07/18/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Cleveland Indians go for a four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers today, as the teams conclude their series at Progressive Field.

Despite being well below .500, the Indians have come out of the All-Star break with a full head of steam and have won three straight against the Tigers, including two on Saturday.

Trevor Crowe's two-out RBI single in the seventh inning gave Cleveland a 4-3 win over Detroit in the first game of a doubleheader from Progressive Field.

Fausto Carmona (9-7) went seven-plus innings and yielded three runs on six hits while surviving six walks to post his fourth straight quality start during which he's gone 3-1.

Jason Donald and Michael Brantley each had two hits and drove in a run for the Indians, who won the opener to this four-game series, 8-2, on Friday.

Chris Perez saved his eighth game of the year in place of Kerry Wood, who landed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a blister on his right index finger.

Detroit's Justin Verlander struck out nine over six frames while surrendering three runs on six hits with a season-high five walks. Phil Coke (5-1) came on in the seventh and served up a double to Matt LaPorta before Crowe delivered the deciding run.

In the nightcap, Austin Kearns hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning, as the Indians edged the Tigers, 2-1.

Robbie Weinhardt (0-1) put runners on first and second with two outs in the home 11th. Kearns then laced the ball into left field to give the Indians the victory.

Rafael Perez (2-0) pitched 1 1/3 frames of scoreless relief to pick up the win, while Carlos Santana had two hits, including a homer.

Starter Rick Porcello allowed just one earned run and six hits over eight innings for Detroit, which fell to 16-28 on the road.

Getting the nod for the Tigers today is rookie Andy Oliver, who is still in search of his first major league victory. The left-hander last toed the rubber a week ago, when he allowed four earned runs and five hits in 4 2/3 innings of a 6-3 loss to the Twins.

Oliver, a 22-year-old that hadn't pitched above Double-A before being called up, is making is his first career start versus the Indians.

For Cleveland, Jeanmar Gomez was recalled to make his major league debut today. The right-hander was 6-8 with a 5.70 ERA in 18 starts for Triple-A Columbus.

The Tigers split a two-game set in Cleveland in May, but they are 8-6 there since the start of last season, while going 20-9 overall in the last 29 meetings.
