Men's semis set for Friday in Paris

06/03/2010 - Paris, France (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The men's French Open semifinals will be staged on Friday, as second-seeded Spanish star Rafael Nadal will take on 22nd-seeded Austrian Jurgen Melzer and fifth-seeded Swede Robin Soderling will face 15th-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych.

The former world No. 1 Nadal is a six-time major champion, including four straight French Open titles from 2005-08. The ever-improving Soderling shocked the amazing Spaniard, who's 36-1 lifetime at the French, in the fourth round here a year ago.

Soderling was last year's Roland Garros runner-up to the great Roger Federer, who lost to Soderling in a French Open rematch here this week.

Nadal, who turned 24 on Thursday, is 2-0 lifetime against his fellow lefthander Melzer, who will appear in his first-ever Grand Slam semifinal, while the 6-foot-4 Soderling is 4-3 all-time against the 6-foot-5 Berdych.

Berdych will appear in his first-ever Grand Slam semi, while Soderling will play in his second, with both coming here in Paris over the last two years.

The powerful Nadal would supplant Federer atop the men's rankings for a second time with a title here this week. The Spaniard is seeking his fourth straight title on the tour, having recently titled at Monte Carlo, Rome and Madrid, a trio of ATP Masters tournaments.

Friday's winners will meet in the final here on Sunday.
