Wilson Chandler charged with marijuana possession

05/19/2010 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - New York Knicks forward Wilson Chandler was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana after the drug was found in the car he was driving Tuesday night.

A spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said police stopped Chandler's 2010 Mercedes Benz around 11 p.m. because the front headlights were off. Officers then smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, and Lamonte Yarbrough, a passenger in the car, admitted there was marijuana in the car.

Officers found one plastic-sealed bag of marijuana in the center console and an additional five small plastic bags in the trunk of the car, according to the spokeswoman.

Chandler and Yarbrough are scheduled to be arraigned on the charges July 1.

Last season, Chandler averaged 15.3 points and 5.4 rebounds in 65 games. He sat out the final month of the season due to a groin injury. He also had surgery for a sports hernia and on his ankle following the season.
